Since 1874, Goodwin Funeral Home and Cremation Services has been providing attentive service to families in Manchester and the surrounding communities. Families have trusted Goodwin Funeral Home to care for their family, generation after generation.
By listening and learning about the interests of the deceased and the family’s traditions, we assist families in planning a meaningful service that celebrates and commemorates the life of their loved one. We also help guide families and friends of the deceased in moving forward with their recently changed lives. At Goodwin, we are not trying to be the biggest firm in the state we are only trying to be the best for your family.
A history of serving Manchester’s families
Goodwin Funeral Home, originally known as A.E. Morse, Undertakers, was located in a downtown Manchester storefront. In the late 1800s, Elmer D. Goodwin purchased the business. He was later joined by his son, Lewis B. Goodwin, who died in 1919. Ten years later, Elmer relocated the funeral home to the former Amoskeg Mill Presidents Mansion, a Victorian home in the Swiss style. Goodwin Funeral Home continues to be located in this stately, historic building.
Lewis’ son, David P. Goodwin, joined his grandfather in the business in 1936 and provided services to area families for 50 years before retiring in 1986. His son, Charles S. Goodwin, purchased the business that year. In 2005 Charles sold the business to Chad M. Corbin. Goodwin Funeral Home was sold in 2010 and is now owned by Richard A. Meyer and Gary A. Carolan who are continuing the tradition of quality, service and dignity to the community of Manchester.
In 1995, the Manchester Historic Association awarded a Historic Preservation Award to the Goodwin Funeral Home for our “dedication and commitment to the preservation of historic resources in the City of Manchester, New Hampshire.” The Goodwin Funeral Home has shown the same attentive care to maintaining our historic property that we show each day in caring for the needs of the families we serve.
Goodwin Funeral Home is an active member of the National Funeral Directors Association, the New Hampshire Funeral Directors Association and the Cremation Association of North America.
