Jean P. Anderson, age 80, died Tuesday, May 26, 2020 at Catholic Medical Center in Manchester from a long battle with chronic health issues.
Jean, known as Dr. J, was born on May 16, 1940 in Rockford, IL, the daughter of Philip and Freda (Engstrom) Anderson. Jean attended York High School in Elmurst, IL. Jean received her Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of Minnesota in Kinesiology. She was a graduate of Wheaton College and Northeastern University. Jean lived in various places during her life in Dillsburg and Wilkesbury, PA; Spokane, WA; Chicago IL; Amherst, NH and Manchester, NH
Jean is survived by her brother, John P. Anderson and his wife, Lucille (Larson) Anderson of Springfield, IL.
Dr. J. led a very active life at Birch Hill. She was a member of the Board of Trustees, she served as the chairperson of their Resident Council, chairperson of the Elf (Education, Learning and Fun) Committee and the chairperson of the Benevolence Fund Committee.
Jean was a very crafty lady, she was the original DIY before it was a thing. She loved projects and hobbies, building remote boats, dollhouses, building railroads with towns and making crafty cards. She loved helping individuals with various wood working projects, on top of her home improvement projects. Dr. J enjoyed cooking and had tips for many. In her role at Daniel Webster College as the Registrar (2000 – 2011) she was an ear for everyone. Many students would go in to see her with a school issue and would end up staying in her office for an hour talking about anything but school.
She will laid to rest at the Scandavian Cemetery in Rockford, IL. A celebration of her life will be held at a future date. In her honor, memorial donations can be made to Birch Hill Terrace, Benevolence Fund, Attn: Joy, 200 Alliance Way, Manchester, NH 03102
